It is no secret that among “evangelical” Christians a boast is made that America was founded by Christian men and on Christian principles. Am I right or wrong about this point? You might find the New York Times article How Christian Were The Founders to be quite interesting and insightful.
If it is true that America was founded by Christian men and on Christian principles then those of us who are evangelicals and are a member of the “Christian” church and faith have a major problem to contend with and we MUST address it post haste. I’ll explain what I mean in just a few moments after I add a few other comments to my post…
America is not Israel nor are we the “New Israel” as some believe. Just Google Search “Is America The New Israel” and see what you find. We are America and Israel is Israel. However both the true Israel (the Jewish people) and Gentiles are all in the same position before God spiritually Romans 3:1-20 - in other words now before God both Israel and the Jews and America and the Gentiles are equal and God does not show any more favor or any less favor to one group or nation or the other). Both Jew and Gentile are lost in sin and without hope or help apart from believing on the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and living for him. (Romans 3:23, Romans 1:16).
So, now back to my point about America being founded on Christian principles and our being a “Christian nation” – Anyone with any common sense can see that America is in total spiritual, political, economic, social, moral, educational and environmental decline. We are literally on the brink of disaster on all of the fronts that I mentioned. So to follow the logic of the people who believe we are a “Christian” nation founded on Christian principles the reason America is in the trouble that it is isn’t because of the failings of any particular political group, socio-economic group, moral group, educational system, or eco-unfriendly corporations. It is because God’s people – the true church; his chosen, his elect, his holy bride; those who claim they are “born again evangelical Christians” have sinned against a holy and righteous God by rejecting and despising HIM and his Word, have gone whoring after other and foreign Gods making sacrifices to them and commiting idolatry with them, and are listening to false prophets who call good evil and evil good and teach a lie for truth and have now brought the judgment of God down upon our nation. Don’t blame it on the liberals or the media or the homosexuals as a lot of evangelicals like to do…(“Well, the reason America is in the shape it’s in is because of those liberal democrats down there in DC.” “Oh no dear, the reason America is in the terrible shape it’s in is because of that liberal media;” “I disagree with both of you, the reason America is in the sad shape it’s in today is because of the homosexuals and their trying to take over our country with their gay agenda.” Does any of this sound familiar to you? It does to me and it just makes me sick, sad, and very angry because the buck stops at the front door of the organized, established yet tragically divided evangelical Christian church in America. That’s right! I said it…America as a nation is pretty much a godless, immoral, violent, unjust, greed filled country of people who are leading this country to its destruction. And many of the people who are involved are “professing Christians” who are members in good standing at their local church.
I love Jesus Christ with all my heart, soul, mind and strength for what he has done for me in saving me out of a lifestyle of 40 years as a homosexual. I love his church. And I love America. However, I also love truth and I am just calling it as I see it. So what is the solution then? Where must the organized, established evangelical “church” in America go from here to avert further calamity and disaster (which are not brought on by political parties, corporations or “mother nature”) but are the result of a holy, just and righteous God who has said “ENOUGH” and is allowing it to happen in our country. Those of us who are truly Christians need to repent of our sins…our sins of not loving God with all of our hearts, soul, minds, and strength and our neighbor as ourself, of our greed, of our loving the world and trying to act and look like the world to fit in, our silence in the midst of rampant injustice and corruption…we need to repent at the very deepest core of our beings and weep and mourn for our sins. II Chronicles 7:14 written to the nation of Israel states, “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. I realize that this was written to the nation of Israel as I stated before but the very same God of Israel is the God of those who love and follow Christ. Those of us who are “Christians” are his people and are called by his name. And I do believe with all my heart that if the leaders and members of the organized, established American “Christian Church,” myself included, will truly humble ourselves, pray and fervently seek God’s face, repent of our sins and the sins of our nation as we turn away from any wicked way in our lives that God will hear from heaven, forgive our sin, do an incredibly marvelous and new thing and send healing to our land.
God bless!
Just a pilgrim,
Harold

Oh gosh, you’ve said so much, but the one thing you said that reverberates in my cranium is “horribly divided church.”
Many Chirstians would rather blast other Christians who have a different brand of Christianity than worship the Lord with them…which both brands in fact espouse to do…worship the Lord.
Maybe if we called each other less names and prayed together more…just sayin…
Nike, Thank you for your comments concerning the post on my blog. I agree with what you wrote. And what you referred to is exactly what I meant by stating that the church is “horribly divided.” There can certainly be different “churches” or local assembly’s but Biblically there should be one church under the authority and reign of our Sovereign Lord…living out lives of unity and peace with each other as well as with our neighbors. As I am sure you know that is not the case however. We have the same problem that Paul confronted with the church in Corinth and that was believers were following leaders rather than Christ which led him to ask them “Was Christ divided?” And of course the answer is no. My great burden for the church is that we would collectively repent of our sins hating them as God does and loving our Lord and serving him in such a unified way as to make an impact in our nation. Oh that America might turn back to God as a nation before it is too late. God have mercy on us and help us.
GREAT article, but my experience is that the very ones you refer to here are the ones less likely to see themselves in this role! We are ALL part of America and ALL part of the problem, meaning that God CAN and WILL reign down His justice on us some day, if not NOW! If we have this problem among Christians (and it is stated that we do), then how much worse for those in America who do not even acknowledge that Christ is Lord. God, please bring us to repentance and bless America once more!
