Ministry Update – I preached at the homeless mission in Scranton PA last night

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16 (ESV). Praise the Lord for the “good news” of the gospel…a gospel that saves to the uttermost from sin and the judgment of God and Hell, but also that transforms the person who believes it and embraces it and follows Christ as Savior and Lord.

I know this to be true because about 5 years ago the Lord in his great mercy and grace saved me and delivered me out of a life of sin living as a practicing homosexual for over 40 years. Praise his name! It is true that “whosoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” I know it’s true because when I called on the name of the Lord he saved me and has forever changed my life – setting my course for the joy of living for my Lord and Savor now in this present time and being with him in Heaven one day soon for all eternity.

So, I just can’t stop talking about my Lord and Savior. I love him! I praise him and I live to serve him. And one way that I have the joy and privilege of serving him is by preaching at our local homeless mission in Scranton PA…The Scranton Rescue Mission. Last night I preached there and spoke on the Parable of the Good Samaritan found in Luke 10:25-37. Now I realize I am just an ordinary man who possesses no special gifts or talents - other than the gifts of the Holy Spirt imparted to me when I was saved. Quite the contrary is true in that I do not speak too well, I forget things I want to say quite easily (so I write my messages out), and I am not the “sharpest tool in the shed” if you know what I mean, but for some reason that is beyond me, God in his Grace uses me and blesses me when I share from his Word. “He must increase but I must decrease!” (John 3:30). And I am most happy to decrease before my Lord and become as nothing to do his will. And like the Scriptures states, “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;” (I Corinthians 1:27 ESV)  and I more than qualify on both accounts as I sure appear to be foolish and weak at times.

The GOOD NEWS other than the “Good News of the Gospel” is that individuals made decisions for Christ last night, accepting his free and generous gift of Salvation and others rededicated their lives to the Lord and to living for and serving him. Halleluiah!

I love those people so much at the mission – they are truly very kind and wonderful people who have fallen on hard times for many different reasons. And they are not bums or “worthless” people. Like the one young man who fell on difficult times and ended up homeless and staying at the local homseless shelter. He started working every day, saving his money and now praise the Lord he is moving out of transitional living at the shelter to his own place. He worked hard and I mean hard and long and saved his money to get out of the shelter. And God has blessed his efforts. How awesome is that! And he is a professing believer in Christ who truly loves the Lord and his word.
